Welcome to Business Debtline
The helpline that provides free, confidential and independent advice on how to deal with debt problems.
We offer debt advice for self employed people living in different parts of the country. This is because the law concerning debt varies depending on whether you live in England and Wales or Scotland. You can be confident that the advice we offer is targeted to you. Simply choose the site below that applies to you.

Northern Ireland
If you live or trade in Northern Ireland unfortunately we are unable to advise you as the laws are very different to those in England, Wales and Scotland. It is very important that you get advice from a local advice agency based in Northern Ireland.
You can contact these free independent agencies for advice and you can search their websites for a local advice agency near you.

BDL receives excellent feedback from clients who have used the service:
"I am a sole trader and in the last year have found myself in a financial nightmare - but I was lucky enough to find the Business Debtline. However there are thousands of small businesses out there going to the wall who are not aware of this wonderful charity. I did not know which way to turn or what my rights were. I am a long way from getting things right but feel stronger for BDL help and advice. It is the only lifeline available to us." - a user of the MoneySavingExpert.com forums

Companies that charge for adviceYou may come across companies who offer to sort out your debts on payment of a fee. Be very careful to look at what the company is promising to do for you before sending them any money. Some of these companies say they will get your creditors to write off part or all of your debts. Unless you have special circumstances, this is unlikely to happen. These companies may also not give sufficient advice on dealing with your business debts and only assist with personal debts. Our service is completely free; phone us for advice
